White-Out Navigation

Being able to navigate is a critical skill on a glacier. A white-out can leave you stranded, guessing which way is correct - or worse.

Navigation is critical for proper travel - in addition to a map & compass you should be proficient with a GPS and be able to make a route plan as well. Learn how to read and use all the different navigational aids as well as make a route plan and be better prepared for your next adventure.

We'll cover a variety of skills:

Basic skills:
      • Map reading
      • Compass use

More advanced skills:
      • UTM readers/grids
      • GPS use and programming
      • Computer mapping software
      • Making a route plan to get you in and out from your designation

Bringing your own compass and/or GPS is recommended to help you gain familiarity with it; however, if you don't own any yet we have some available for loan and can help you with things to look for when purchasing one.
