Special Events - Catskill Ice Festival 2010
Join the 12th Annual Catskill Ice Festival, February 19, 20, 21, 22, 2010.
Last year was great fun and this year again will have multiple clinics on all the skills and techniques you need to get out on ice - from basic skills, to dry-tooling, to glacier travel techinciques.
Slide shows on Friday & Saturday evening featuring ice climbing in New Foundland to New England climbers pushing the limits on rock, ice and mixed terrain. Slide shows will be held at Rock and Snow at 8pm.
Special guests include Jim Shimberg and Matt McCormick
Tents will set up on the Catskill Center for Conservation and Developement's property (the place wih the sweet red cabin) near the Devil's Kitchen on Saturday and Sunday so you can try out the latest Harnesses, Ice Tools, Crampons, and clothing from the best companies. You know them - Black Diamond, Petzl, La Sportiva, Scarpa, Outdoor Research & Rab. Click for location directions
Rates are $140 per person per event - Slideshows are free!
As an added bonus - Rock and Snow will offer 15% off for ice gear and apparel for all icefest registrants from the time they sign up through the end of the ice fest. All you need is to print out and show them the confirmation email we send when you register for it.

Catskill Tour - climb at a few of the locations in the Catskills in the same day. Depending on conditions, we will plan to visit and climb at a few areas: Asebestos Wall or Moore's Bridge, Stoney Clove, and/or the Devil's Kitchen.Examples of a more involved day can include sarting in Kaaterskill Clove, we'll climb up one of the multi-pitch ravines, then carry over near Catskill High Peak on the way to the Devil's Kitchen. We'll then climb the rest of the day in the Devil's Kitchen, A full day of activity and adventure.

Intermediate Ice Movement - for those who have climbed some ice before. We will introduce you to the techniques needed to climb effortlessly and efficiently.

Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue - Planning a trip to a glaciated area? Brush up on your glacier travel skills. We'll cover methods for tying in on a glacier in different party sizes, french techniques for your crampons and ice axe, and hauling systems and crevasse rescue skills just in case someone happens to fall in. Backcountry Day in the Ravines - climb one or more of the multi-pitch ravines in the Catskills. Bushwhack in, climb up, rappel down, buschwhack out. A full day of activity and adventure.
