     Special Events - Catskill Ice Festival 2012

 

Join the 14th Annual Catskill Ice Festival, January 20, 21, 22, 23, 2012.

Last year was again great fun. This year again will have multiple clinics on all the skills and techniques you need to get out on ice - from basic skills, to dry-tooling, to glacier travel techniques.

Slide shows on Friday & Saturday evening featuring ice climbing in the Catskills, and a special show by Freddie Wilkinson on Friday. Slide shows will be held at Rock and Snow at 8pm.

The demo gear will be located at Rock and Snow - so you can try out the latest Harnesses, Ice Tools, Crampons, and clothing from the best companies. You know them - Black Diamond, Petzl, La Sportiva, Outdoor Research & Rab. Click for location directions

Rates are $150 per person per event - Slide shows are free!

As an added bonus - Rock and Snow will offer 15% off for ice gear and apparel for all icefest registrants from the time they sign up through the end of the ice fest. All you need is to print out and show them the confirmation email we send when you register for it.

Catskill Tour - climb at a few of the locations in the Catskills in the same day. Depending on conditions, we will plan to visit and climb at a few areas: Asbestos Wall or Moore's Bridge, Stoney Clove, and/or the Devil's Kitchen. A full day of activity and adventure.

Basic Ice Movement - New to ice climbing, never ice climbed before? We will introduce you to the techniques needed to ice climb.
Limited to 12 participant on a 4:1 climber-to-guide ratio. All equipment provided.

Steep Ice Techniques - Ice is always steeper than it looks. Learn some handy skills & techniques to help keep you calm and cool when are on that pillar and fearing the burn.
Limited to 8 participant on a 4:1 climber-to-guide ratio. All equipment provided.

Intermediate Ice Movement - for those who have climbed some ice before. We will introduce you to the techniques needed to climb effortlessly and efficiently.
Limited to 12 participant on a 4:1 climber-to-guide ratio. All equipment provided.

Mixed Climbs & Dry Tooling - When the ice runs out, or starts a ways up there...
Learn the many different ways to use your tools to climb rock with your tools and crampons.
Limited to 8 participant on a 4:1 climber-to-guide ratio. All equipment provided.

Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue - Planning a trip to a glaciated area? Brush up on your glacier travel skills. We'll cover methods for tying in on a glacier in different party sizes, french techniques for your crampons and ice axe skills, and hauling systems and crevasse rescue skills just in case someone happens to fall in. Backcountry Day in the Ravines - climb one or more of the multi-pitch ravines in the Catskills. Bushwhack in, climb up, rappel down, bushwhack out. A full day of activity and adventure.
